The conservator of American Pickers star Frank Fritz has served his bank with legal documents to transfer the star’s financial assets to him while he continues to heal from a stroke that has rendered him unable to communicate. The stroke occurred in his home in July 2022. Frank, who was 60 years old at the time, was hospitalized and required rehabilitation. MidWestOne Bank is Frank’s conservator, and his close friend Chris Davis is his guardian. The conservatorship process was initiated in August 2022, and the former American Pickers star was placed under the conservatorship.

MidWestOne has reportedly ordered that Frank’s finances be transferred to them from a separate bank, JP Morgan, because the celebrity will continue to require skilled and long-term nursing care. This information was originally revealed by The U.S. Sun newspaper. During the litigation, an Iowa judge granted the request. Two representatives from JP Morgan have now been served with court papers to hand over the money in question.

As The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed after acquiring court documents from the conservatorship case, Frank possesses cash assets and credit accounts at JP Morgan. It was claimed in the conservator’s initial plan that the assets would be transferred to MidWestOne because they would be able to invest and generate income for Frank. This arrangement was submitted in November 2022. The court filings state that since the plan’s approval, the conservator has repeatedly contacted JP Morgan to gain access to Frank’s funds, credit card statements, and income tax documents. However, these attempts have been unsuccessful.

After repeatedly failing to respond to the conservator, the bank refused to provide access to Mr. Fritz’s assets and documentation, ignoring the conservator’s authority, court orders, and state laws. The court filing stated that Frank continues to rely on long-term skilled nursing care, so it is imperative that his assets are properly managed and wisely invested to support his long-term needs. The protected party no longer needs consumer credit cards, and any open accounts are vulnerable to fraud, especially since the conservator cannot access these accounts to monitor charges.

MidWestOne Bank’s request was as follows: the court should issue an order compelling JP Morgan to release all of Frank Fritz’s funds to the conservator, close all of Frank Fritz’s credit card accounts, provide the conservator with Frank Fritz’s income tax documents for 2023, and change the mailing address for future income tax documents to match the conservator’s address.

On July 19, a hearing was held, and the judge ruled in favor of MidWestOne Bank. According to the verdict, JP Morgan Chase Bank was ordered to provide access and authority over all bank accounts, credit card accounts, and any other accounts held or controlled by Mr. Fritz. The investigation is ongoing. The news of the conservatorship filing in August 2022 was first reported by The U.S. Sun.

Documents obtained by The U.S. Sun stated that Mr. Fritz’s decision-making capacity is so impaired by his stroke that he is unable to care for his own safety or provide for necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, or medical care, without which physical injury or illness may occur. Frank’s decision-making capacity is also so impaired that he is unable to make, communicate, or carry out important decisions concerning his financial affairs.

While Mr. Fritz is recuperating and receiving treatment, decisions need to be made regarding his care and placement to prevent immediate harm. It was determined that appointing a guardian and conservator was necessary. Frank’s guardian assists him with treatment for Crohn’s disease, physical therapy, and various tasks like food shopping and cooking.

Regarding the conservator, MidWestOne submitted an initial plan detailing $292 in expenses, with most of the budget going toward in-home healthcare, amounting to $22,832. Frank spends a total of $273,984 annually on medical care. Since being discharged from the hospital in September 2022, Frank has been in and out of rehabilitation services multiple times and has been admitted to the hospital on several occasions, notably for pneumonia.

Despite his medical setbacks, Frank continues to improve daily. Though it’s impossible to fully recover after a stroke, he is reportedly doing well. A friend of Frank’s told The U.S. Sun that Frank is aware of what is happening and that you could have a conversation with him. “The same old Frank is still around,” the friend said.

After his stroke, Frank was unable to move without a wheelchair. Although he can now walk, he will always require a wheelchair for longer distances. The stroke affected the right side of his body, resulting in limited mobility. In August, rumors of Frank’s death trended on social media, but a source confirmed to The U.S. Sun that they were false. “He’s been eating ice cream and watching the Olympics,” the source added.

The last episode of American Pickers featuring Frank aired in March 2020. He had to take time off for back surgery, which involved 185 stitches and two rods in his spine. During his 77-day break from the show, Frank checked himself into a rehab center in Iowa for alcohol addiction. There was a disagreement between Frank and Mike Wolfe, his lifelong friend and co-star, but they made amends following Frank’s stroke.

Mike, Robbie Wolfe, John Shalam, and Danielle Colby are now the stars of American Pickers. The new season will begin airing this fall.
